Sammy Ofer International stadium official start on site

KSS Chairman David Keirle and Technical Director Kerry Thompson attended the official launch to mark work beginning on site of the Sammy Ofer International Stadium in Haifa.

The ceremony held on the site, involved the laying of the foundation stone by shipping magnate and philanthropist Sammy Ofer (who the stadium is named after,) the mayor Mr Yona Yahav and the new CEO of the Haifa Economic Corporation Gal Peleg. Around 250 guests attended the traditional breaking ground ceremony which was conducted in Hebrew.

Set in the shadow of Mount Carmel the striking looking stadium will be the new home to Maccabi Haifa and Happoel Haifa. The 30,000 capacity stadium has been designed to UEFA Elite category requirements and incorporates hospitality facilities for 1,800 VIPs, executives and box holders, including a striking pitch facing Sky Restaurant.

Kerry Thompson said of the day 'the setting was like a mini oasis in the middle of a construction site – quite surreal. It's great that we are now on site and we are all looking forward to seeing the stadium take shape."
