Luton Sixth Form College oficially opened

KSS were delighted to be part of the official opening ceremony held on 9th March 2011 at the new Luton Sixth Form College. The KSS-designed College was officially opened by Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, a former student and leading figure in the development of genetic fingerprinting. The ceremony, attended by staff, local dignitaries and other invited guests, celebrated both the opening and the success of the new College.

Construction work started on site in October 2008. The first 'main building' phase of the £56m campus redevelopment was handed over to the College in June 2010, ready to open its doors to students for the new term in September 2010. The second phase, including the demolition of the old building and the development of external sports facilities, was completed in early 2011 ready for the official opening.

The new 16,870m2 low energy building provides a dramatic, stimulating and relaxing environment for students and staff. The key feature of the facility is the central 'hub' at the heart of the building, which is wrapped by two roof lit streets, and the new West side Refectory and student Learning Resource Centre.
