Designing for the England Rugby team

As England prepares to host the Rugby World Cup in 2015, KSS is working on a refurbishment programme at Twickenham Stadium, which sees the new England Rugby branding applied across interior architecture and environmental graphics projects.

This has included a refurbishment of the player facilities, including the tunnel leading on to the pitch.

To build on and visualise the culture and values of the England squad key features including engraved walls that celebrate the long history of the game, a plaque in each player’s cubicle listing notable players in their position and an honours board of every player who has served their country since 1871. As the team line up within the tunnel mouth updateable messages of support covering the walls act as a reminder of the squad’s responsibility to past players, team members and supporters.

At the start of the RBS 6 Nations, England Rugby called upon fans to get behind their team by tweeting messages of support using #carrythemhome. Selected lucky England fans had their words printed on the new tunnel walls as the players ran out to a victory over Ireland at the last match. And with one final home game remaining in the Championship further winners will see their motivational tweets adorn the walls for Sunday’s clash against Wales.

Before the roar of the crowd, the national anthems or that first blow of the whistle, the fans messages are inspiring the England squad.
