Education Estates round-up

The annual Education Estates conference in Manchester is the only event in the UK covering primary, secondary, further and higher education sectors all under one roof. The conference features over 90 speakers, with specialist content streams for Schools, Colleges and Universities.

Our exposure and experience in the education sector has dramatically increased over the last few years and although we have attended the event previously, this year was the first where we took a more active role.

KSS Director Lee Nightingale delivered one of the key presentations at the conference on ‘Opportunities for School sites in an Urban Setting’ focusing on our recently completed Brook House Primary School in Tottenham. We also had a KSS stand showcasing our wide-ranging portfolio of projects, offering a great opportunity for debate and interaction with all of the delegates.

Education is the corner stone of our society, and as architects, we have a social responsibility to future generations to provide dynamic and inspiring environments for teaching and learning. With the ever-increasing constraints on budget and time in the public sector, the delivery of this requires ever-greater levels of creativity and innovation. Education Estates 2017 provided a fantastic opportunity for professionals to share ideas and expand their knowledge in order to achieve the collective goal of accessible and stimulating education spaces for all.

It wasn’t all work and no play, the awards dinner provided the chance to socialise with old acquaintances and forge new relationships that had been kindled during the conference and exhibition itself in a more relaxed and informal setting.

We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves across the two days; we learnt a lot, developed new connections and consolidated old ones whilst having fun along the way.  We will be back next year in our continuing bid to expand our knowledge and provide the best education environments.
