Two months until start of Cycle to MIPIM 2017

The countdown has begun to the start of the Legal & General Real Assets Cycle to MIPIM 2017. In the build up to the event, I’ll be keeping a diary of my training, exercise and digestive biscuit consumption!

Initially, I intended to do the Cycle to MIPIM 2016, but on the 26 September, a Welsh hillside got in the way of a paragliding landing – one week before the applications to be selected for MIPIM 2016!

I have been paragliding for over 10 years, but a combination of errors lead to a trip to Abergavenny hospital and the resulting breakages put paid to exercise or sporting activity for the best part of 6 months.

Fast forward to 2017, and I have been training solidly for 1 month now, but more time would be good to help build up the strength in my ankle. Weekdays are usually limited to Tuesdays and Thursday spin classes, weights on Wednesdays and longer weekend rides so I am slowly getting fitter, leaner with better endurance.

Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to do any cycling over the Christmas break, but some high altitude skiing must have done some good – although the wine, fondues and copious bread probably caused more damage!

Luckily, there are no major alp-type climbs on the ride so weight is not an issue; that said there must be some nice titanium or carbon parts I can buy to make me faster, or a concealed motor…

The ride starts in London on the 9 March finishing by the Mediterranean in Cannes on the 14 March typically covering 200/300(+) km each day. I’m raising funds with Club Peloton for the charity Coram that has been supporting vulnerable children for over 275 years.
