Phase Two completes at National Indoor Arena

Last month, Phase Two of the National Indoor Arena was opened by The Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar in the Dublin sunshine.

The new facilities include three new grass rugby  pitches, a half-size indoor synthetic pitch and  full sized indoor football pitch, customised gym space, elite-level performance analysis technology, state-of-the-art medical and recovery services, and best in class nutritional facilities.

The three flood-lit outdoor pitches have been developed to rugby test level standards. The indoor pitch meets IRB regulation 22 standards and allows players to train in all conditions whilst supplementing the gym space as a functional training area. The bespoke gym has been specially designed to cater for the unique needs of Ireland’s rugby players and provides the very latest equipment and technology. Dressing rooms for all teams have been built to the same high standards as Aviva’s Stadium matchday facilities.

The high performance centre will be the headquarters for Irish Rugby’s vision for the future, a place for the current and next generation to thrive and inspire.

John Treacy, Chief Executive at Sport Ireland said at the opening ceremony, “The development of Phase Two means that Ireland’s leading field sports will have access to extensive indoor and outdoor facilities alongside the world-class facilities of the Sport Ireland Institute.”

Kieran Mulvey, Chairman of Sport Ireland added, “Current and future teams and athletes have now an extensive range of elite standard facilities on the Sport Ireland Campus from which they now can avail.”

KSS Director and Lead Designer, Nick Marshall said, “We are delighted that the National Indoor Arena has been completed with the opening of Phase Two.  This facility provides Irish sport with world class indoor elite training facilities for national field sports that is on a par with the best facilities in Europe.”
