Planning approval for the Eagles

On Wednesday night, Crystal Palace FC received planning approval from Bromley Council for the redevelopment of its Academy, heralding a new era for the club.

The plans will see the Academy secure Category One status in a major expansion and enhancement of the football facilities. The redevelopment will allow the club to provide first-class playing and training facilities to more than 200 players on a single site opposite the first team Training Centre, inspiring a new generation of local talent.

The plans include one covered full-size football pitch, the creation of an artificial full-size pitch with floodlighting, regrading of the site to create a full-size show pitch with spectator seating and six training pitches (two full-size, two 3/4 size and two half-size).

Great importance has been placed on improving welfare facilities for the club’s younger players. This includes new educational facilities, with the creation of up to five classrooms, lecture rooms and up to eight tutors will be employed to ensure players receive the very best education on site.

KSS Director and Lead Designer Nick Marshall said, “KSS are delighted to have supported Crystal Palace FC in another successful planning application. The approval of the new Academy will support the growth of the academy boys through the provision of new playing, educational and recreational facilities. We look forward to starting work on the delivery of the project this year.”

Crystal Palace FC Chairman Steve Parish added, “I am delighted that the Bromley Council planning committee has supported our very exciting plans to develop the Academy site. It’s a fantastic scheme and it will create an elite facility and have a transformational impact both in terms of footballing education and personal development for the 200 plus boys that are in our care at any one time. I would like to thank all the staff and partners that have worked so hard with us to achieve this outcome.”

Construction is expected to begin later this year.
